VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
hmm, during those era, seppuku is considered a VERY honourable thing to do when you commit mistakes as they thought if they do that, thay can actually protect their pride and reduce their sins.
do you think it is good practice during those days?
cz i think life is valuable no matter how bad the person is. once u're dead there's nothing else u can do to redeem ur mistakes/sins.

Re: VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
Agreed, I wonder if the traditions were practiced till today, I wonder what will happen to the World today because I believe in this century the traditions will be spread to other parts of the world!

Re: VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
There many different traditions of various cultures and i think it would'nt spread that far from its origin .. unless people are that untrustworthy to giveup their original tradiotion and change it with a new one ..
BUT my idea about the traditions overall is different .. i want to build new ones and not follow the old blindly for the rest of our lives .. don't you think so?

Re: VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
only saying that is enough to deeply shock anyone .. why would someone give up his life just because he failed in something within it .. or rather most successes are the born of catastrophic failures .. or so i believe.Sa~cHan wrote:Yaya...sure...we can create a new culture..but it'll be hard...coz we hv our own thinking from the old culture..

Re: VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
cause, japanese people care about their pride, so to them, pride is something a lot valuable than their life.
they have this concept where by if they made a mistake, they will disgrace their family, that is why they commit suicide in order to protect their family's name.

im proud of those samurais actually LOL
they're willing to risk anything to get their job done.
and this tradition actually disciplined them.

haha, that's true~
but then again...if we're not proud of our ancestors....why are we still keeping and preserving ancient artefacts and architectural monuments?

Re: VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
haha I dont agree with the act of killing urself when u failed in something. Many years back, i remember turning on tv at late night, and saw this movie, don't know whether its english or japanese. Its about a japanese princess kidnapped by foreigners, the samurais protecting her decided to kill themselves, but 1 samurai did not...reason?So that he could be kidnapped together witht he princess and have a chance to save her another day.
It reminds me about second chances that God gave us, one mistake doesn't mean u'll fall down all the way. Although that samurai was cursed by his comrades but in the end he's the one who saved the princess. Pride can be very dangerous hehehe, sometimes we gotta embrace humility then only.....something will be done...
oopss longpost lol.....

It reminds me one of the quote from Kyo Kara Maoh, Konrado always tell Yuri that he's willing to die for him n this make Yuri very n said to him that, " If u have the will of dying, why can't u have the will of living n serving for me using all your capable lifetime? " (I don't remember that precisely, have to re-watch again )

Re: VERY OLD tradition ~ SEPPUKU
I despise the whole idea of killing yourself over some mistake you made. Ever heard of redemption?
Sure, if it's a sin rather than a mistake, it would be different because if it can be atoned, it's not truly a sin, so redemption is meaningless there. But if that's the case, death would be an equally meaningless choice.
And what's this about Pride? Last time I checked, Pride is the First Deadly Sin. It's ironic how one tries to wash away a sin with another sin. Knights are just as honorable as the samurais, but at least they don't kill themselves when there's still a princess to save.
