Advice on a graphic design/illustration career?

Im 18, currently doing my A-levels and next year im going to do an art foundation course at university, then im going to do a visual communications course at the same university, im very passionate about graphics, and would love a career in it!
Any advice on how to be successful in graphic design or illustration, or any advice about art foundations/graphic design courses at university?? Thanks in advance
