Farmers Markets

I don't get the chance to go to farmers markets very often and wondered what everyones view about them are? The reason I have started this topic is after listening to the end of a debate on the radio today. One person said they bought oranges and one had a spanish label on it. Another person said he bought organic vegetables with a South Africa label on them. Do we really know if the produce is any good or where it comes from?
While we are on the subject I would be interested to know where you prefer to buy your meat from?
