My car remote doesn't work after battery changing?

The battery of my Honda car remote has been changed recently. After that, it doesn't work 9 out of 10 times. I have changed the battery before, nothing like this ever happened. My car is out of warranty. Not sure if I need to reprogram it, as it is still working a few times.
