Why do weddings consist of the bride wearing white and the groom wearing black?

I know that some people have different colored weddings (for example, everyone wearing blue, red, etc.), but the general colors being black and white. Does it mean anything?The bride's white wedding dress symbolizes wealth (NOT purity like most people are saying) . Because the dress could not be washed and reused for another occasion, it was evidence that the bride's family could afford to spend money on such an extravagant dress. Through much of the 20th century, only a rich woman could afford to wear a white wedding dress. The white wedding dress was made famous by Queen Victoria since she wore a white wedding dress in her wedding years ago. And black is the standard color for a man's tuxedo.
