Engagment rings - white gold or yellow gold?

My boyfriend has recently proposed & of course Ive accepted, although nothing is offical just yet & its kept between me & him & my best mate. Its my best mate whos helping him and advicing me on picking the ring. However Ive always loved sliver Im not a gold person, so Id prefer white gold engagment ring however shes just informed me that white gold needs to be replated & wear away very quickly. So basically just wondered if this was true as she says I might need to rethink my ring?
