How do I lower the pressure on a combi boiler?

My boiler's not working and we desperately need hot water - the people won't be free till next Tuesday to fix it! Please help:

The pressure on the boiler is too high - I need to lower it. I saw that there were taps at the bottom, and turned one, only to have the pressure increase even further! I need to get the pressure down.
