Obon (お盆, Obon?) or just Bon (盆, Bon?) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed (deceased) spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves. It has existed in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.

Bon Odori (盆踊り, meaning simply Bon dance) is an event held during Obon. It is celebrated as a reminder of the gratefulness one should feel toward one's ancestors.

Plain casual means no short pants? If formal attire then I know what to wear, but...is that mean T-shirt ( haha maybe by that time our club T-shirt has out then..) plus Jeans only? So confusing.

meaning don't wear cosplay or fancy stuff.. you know some ppl juz loves to wear like those ''la la zhai or la la mui'' those kind.. harajuku style.. just wear normal.. jeans + t-shirt.. or wutever that u think is suitable.. Some people just don't understand what Bon Odori means.

Can't blame me if I never expose to it....I only know about it thru manga and anime I watched, the real life one I really don know ma That's why my family keep saying that I only live inside the World of Anime and Manga....... Gomen ne if this fact upset you, I never mean to upset other people. Cheer up! Bizen-chan!

Sorry for double post here but after second thought, I decided to say something here

1. "la la zhai or la la mui" - there's no such phrase and do check properly before you use the words which is unfamiliar to you. The correct one should be "xi ham zhai" not "la la zhai".

2. Are you discriminate with other cultures? Especially NON-MAINSTREAM cultures?

3. There is a standard dress code for formal attires. But may I know where on this earth do we have a yardstick for casual attire as well?

Urm.. actually most ppl use the word la la zhai and la la mui ~.~ Xi ham zhai also can..

Also, i m not being discriminate.. it's just that this is what bon odori is about in japan.. but i guess the malaysia culture here is more or less taking over the trend lol..

Agreed....but then what to do? Malaysia is the only country that changed Bon Odori event from "Ghost Festival" to "Japan cultural exchange event and Summer welcoming day"....so the event is more likely to the event being held in Japan on the 22nd of June that is not so famous compared to the Bon Odori, but the best thing is Malaysia adopted the culture and mix it together~

so in the end anyone went? i went tho ^.^ hot like crazy. more and more people attending Bon Odori.
